Cpl. D. Thorley - 201501

According to his attestation papers dated October 25, 1915 at Toronto, Daniel John Thorley was born on November 14, 1886 at Hornsea, Yorkshire, England.  He listed his wife Edith Emily Thorley, Burlington Road, Mimico as his next of kin.  He listed his occupation as car repairer and indicated that he had no previous military experience.  He was 28 years, 11 1/2 months of age and stood 5 feet 5 1/4 inches tall.  He had brown eyes, black hair and a dark complexion.  He had a 1 inch scar on his right shin.  He was a member of the Church of England.

His brother Robert also enlisted.

There is a separate undated document that changes the address of his next of kin to 41 O'Hara Street, Toronto.

In the 1912 Toronto City directory he is living on the north side of Southampton Avenue in Mimico (present day Cavell Avenue).  In the 1921 Toronto City directory he is living on the north side of Victoria Street, Mimico.

According to a researcher of this family, Daniel and Robert's parents were George Thorley and Hannah Jane Hinde Thorley.  Daniel and Edith Emily Jarvis Thorley immigrated in 1910 sometime after their marriage on March 11, 1910 (Parish of the Transfiguration, Hull, York, England).  Edith died in Montreal, Quebec on March 26, 1949.  Daniel died in Montreal, Quebec on March 3, 1964.
