He was 32 years and 2 months of age and stood 6 feet tall. He had blue eyes, dark hair and complexion. He had a repaired cleft palate with a slight speech defect. He was a Presbyterian.
His brother Thomas also enlisted.
In the 1914 Toronto City directory he is listed as a "cond" living on the north side of Mimico Avenue, Mimico.
