According this his attestation papers dated January 13, 1916, Cecil John Trafford was born in Oxford, England on January 7, 1898. He listed his father Walter J. Trafford, Mimico as his next of kin. He indicated that he worked on the railway and that he had had previous military experience with the 12th Regiment of the York Rangers. He was 18 years of age and stood 5 feet tall. He had blue eyes and fair hair and complexion. He was a member of the Church of England.
His father Walter and brother Ralph also enlisted.
