According to his attestation papers dated October 7, 1915, William James Daniel Todd was born on August 31, 1883 in Toronto. He listed his wife Mary Todd, Victoria Street, Mimico as his next of kin. He indicated his occupation as Driver and Peddling. He had no previous military experience. He was 32 years and 1 month of age. He was 5 feet 9 1/2 inches tall with blue eyes, dark hair and complexion. He had a scar on his right eye lid, right thumb and above his right knee. He was a Methodist.
In the 1921 Toronto City directory he is listed as an expressman living on the north side of Evans Avenue.
