According to his attestation papers, dated January 4, 1916, George Vaughan was born in Wales on April 1, 1876. He listed his wife Agnes Vaughan as his next of kin. He listed his occupation as coat presser and indicated that he had no previous military experience. He was 40 years, 9 months of age and 5 feet 3 1/2 inches tall. He had brown eyes, dark brown hair as well as a dark complexion. He was missing the thumb on his left hand and had a scar on his forehead. He was a Congreationist.
According to the 1914 Toronto City directory he was a presser and lived on the north side of Warden.
