According to his attestation papers dated August 13, 1915 at Toronto, George Palmer was born on February 19, 1895 in Kent, England.  He listed Mr. Fred Palmer, Dean Street, Mimico as his next of kin.  He listed his occupation as packer and indicated that he had no previous military experience.   He was 21 years old and stood 5 feet, 9 inches.  He had blue eyes, dark hair and a dark fair complexion. 

In the 1921 Toronto City directory he is listed as a clerk living with Mrs. Elizabeth Palmer (widow Fred) on the east side of Church Street (present day Royal York Road), Mimico.

According to his attestation papers dated January 12, 1916 at Mimico, Albert Pemberton, who was boarding with a Mrs. Walker, Mimico, was born in August 1894 in Warington, England.  He listed his father John Thomas Pemberton of 65 Ellesmere Road, Warington, England as his next of kin.  He listed his occupation as shipper.  He indicated that he had had previous military experience with "36 Peel. 9 C.A.S.E" and that he was an active member of the 12th Regiment, York Rangers.  He was 21 years and 5 months of age and stood 5 feet, 6 1/2 inches.  He had blue eyes, fair hair and complexion.  He was Presbyterian.

According to his attestation papers dated February 11, 1916 at Mimico, William John Porter  of Newcastle Street, Mimico, was born on November 15, 1895 at West Bromwich, England.  He listed his mother Jane Porter, Newcastle Street, Mimico as his next of kin.  He was a leather worker and an active member of the 12th Regiment, York Rangers.  He was 19 years and 9 months of age at was 5 feet 6 inches tall.  He had blue eyes, fair hair and complexion.  He was a Methodist.

According to the 1921 Toronto City directory he was a rubber worker, living with his father William Porter (also a rubber worker) on the north side of Cavell Avenue, Mimico.

R. Price

According to his attestation papers dated February 29, 1916 at Mimico, Richard Price was born on May 28, 1886 at St. Helens, Lancashire, England.  He listed his father, Thomas Price of St. Helens, Lancashire, England as his next of kin.  He indicated that his occupation was car inspector and that he was a member of 12th Regiment, York Rangers.  He was 29 years and 9 months of age and stood 5 feet 6 inches.  He had brown eyes and hair and a fair complexion.  He was a member of the Church of England.

In the 1921 Toronto City directory he was listed as a yardman living on the north side of Cavell Avenue, Mimico.

D. W. Redding

According to his attestation papers dated September 6, 1916 at Toronto, David William Redding of 94 Montgomery Avenue, Toronto was born on June 8, 1895 in Birmingham, England.  He listed his mother, Mrs. Lilliam Redding, Mimico Avenue, Mimico, as his next of kin.  He listed his occupation as driver and was a member of 12th York Rangers.  He was 21 years and 3 months of age and stood 5 feet 7 inches in height.  He had blue eyes, brown hair and a medium complexion.  He was a Methodist.

In the 1921 Toronto City directory he is listed as living with William Redding, bricklayer, on the east side of George Street.  His occupation was listed as paper maker.

F. L. Rich

According to his attestation papers dated February 7, 1916 at Mimico, Frederick Leonard Rich of Southampton Street (present day Cavell Avenue), Mimico was born on November 6, 1897 at Kent, England.  He indicated that Frederick Rich, his father was his next of kin.  He was a teamster and indicated that he was a member of the 12th Regiment, York Rangers as well as having previous military experience of 9 months with the Grenadiers H. Guard.  He was 18 years and 4 months of age and stood at 5 feet 8 inches.  He had brown eyes, brown hair and a medium complexion.  He was a member of the Church of England.

T. Richardson

Private A. Riddlesworth - 135832

According this his attestation papers dated July 27, 1915 at Toronto, Albert Riddlesworth was born on June 10, 1895 at Stockport, England.  He listed his father William Henry Riddlesworth, Manitoba Street, Mimico as his next of kin.  He listed his occupation as colour mixer and indicated that he had 9 months previous military experience with the "C Forces".  He was 20 years old and stood 5 feet, 3 3/4 inches in height.  He had blue eyes, fair hair and complexion.  He was a member of the Church of England. 

According to the 1914 Toronto City directory Albert was a "color mixer" living with his father, Wm H. on the south side of Manitoba Street, Mimico.

According to the Mimico Story by Harvel Currell, Albert Riddlesworth was the first soldier from Mimico to be killed in World War I.   He was killed on April 9, 1916.  He was a member of the 42nd Battalion, Canadian Infantry (Quebec Regiment).  It does not appear that his remains were every found.  He is listed on the Menin Gate at the Ypres Memorial.

Interestingly according to the CEF burial register he was "killed in action at 10:00 o'clock in the morning while in Trench 65 at Sanctuary Wood, east of Ypres when he was hit by a fragment from an enemy shell".

Additional information from the Canadian Virtual War Memorial indicates that he was the son of William Henry and Lydia Riddlesworth, of 122, Symons St., Mimico, Ontario. Born at Stockport, England.

According to his attestation papers dated January 20, 1916 at Mimico, Edward Riding of Cavell Avenue Mimico, was born on August 25, 1874 at Blackburn, England.  He was a shipper by profession.  He indicated that he was a widower so he listed his daughter Miss Annie Riding, 223 Winsley Avenue, Blackburn England, as his next of kin.  He indicated that he had had previous military experience with the 4th East Langs. Territorials, and that he was an active member of the 12th Regiment, York Rangers.   He was 42 years and 6 months of age and stood 5 feet 9 inches tall.  He had blue eyes, fair hair and a dark complexion. 

In the 1921 Toronto City directory he is listed as a labourer, living on the south side of Melrose Street, Mimico.

According to his attestation papers dated August 16, 1915 at Toronto, Henry Harry Rose was born in Mimico on February 19, 1889.  He listed his wife Mrs. Lavinia Rose, Mimico as his next of kin.  He was a blaster by trade and indicated that he had no previous military experience.  He was 26 years and 5 months of age and stood 4 feet 7 inches tall.  He had brown eyes and hair and a dark complexion.  He was a member of the Church of England. 

In the 1914 Toronto City directory his occupation is listed as well driller living on the north side of Symons Street, Mimico.  He was still living at the same location in the 1921 Toronto City directory.

C. W. Rush

According to his attestation papers dated September 23, 1914 at Valcartier, Quebec, Charles William Rush was born in London, England on January 27, 1896.  He listed George Rush, Burgess Avenue, Humber Bay as his next of kin.  He was a gardener by profession and was an active member of the Royal Grenadiers, Toronto.  He was 18 years and 2 months old and stood 5 feet 3 1/2 inches tall.  He was a member of the Church of England.

According to his attestation papers dated February 1, 1916 at Mimico, Alfred Screaton of 12 Gerrard Avenue, Toronto was born on December 28, 1897 in Manchester, England.  He listed his mother Mrs. Susie Screaton, 12 Gerrard Avenue, Toronto as his next of kin.  He indicated that he was a computing clerk and that he was member of the 12th Regiment York Rangers.  He was 18 years and 1 month old.  He stood 5 feet 4 inches tall with blue eyes and fair hair and complexion.  He was a Methodist.

According to his attestation papers dated January 18, 1916 at Mimico, Frederick Charles Shadwell of Mimico was born on May 14, 1894 in Portsmouth, England.  He listed his mother, Mrs. Helen Shadwell, Humber Bay as his next of kin.  He listed his occupation as a carpenter's helper.  He also indicated that he belonged to the 12th Regiment, York Rangers and that he had had previous military experience with the 10th Royal Grenadiers, Toronto.  He was 21 years and 8 months of age and stood 5 feet 7 inches tall.  He had brown eyes and dark hair and complexion.  He was a member of the Church of England.

According to his attestation papers dated February 2, 1916 at Mimico, James Hudson Shawcross was born on October 28, 1882 in Streetsville, Ontario.  He listed his wife Jessie Shawcross, Burlington Road, Mimico as his next of kin.  He was a watchmaker by trade and indicated that he had had 6 years previous military experience as a Sergent with the 2nd Dragoons.  He was 33 years and 3 months of age and stood 5 feet 10 inches tall.  He had blue eyes, brown hair and a medium complexion.  He was a member of the Church of England.

According to his attestation papers dated January 24, 1916 at Toronto, George William Shirley was born on February 4, 1882 in Oxfordshire, England.  He listed his wife Catherine Shirley, Mimico, as his next of kin.  He was a machinist by trade and indicated that he had had previous military experience with the 12th Regiment, York Rangers.  He was 33 years and 11 months of age and stood 5 feet 5 inches tall.  He had brown eyes, dark hair and complexion.  He was a Methodist.

According to the 1914 Toronto City directory he was a carpenter living on the north side of Dean Street, Mimico.  According to the 1921 Toronto City directory he was an engineer living on the same street.

According this his first set of attestation papers dated December 1, 1914 at Toronto, Guilford Allain Slingsby was born on June 2, 1888 in Muneaton, Warwickshire, England.  He listed his father Henry Slingsby, Muneaton, as his next of kin.  He indicated that he was a farmer by trade and that he had had previous military experience with the "33rd C?S?".  He was 26 years of age and stood 5 feet 5 inches tall.  He had blue eyes, brown hair and a fair complexion. 

His second set of attestation papers are dated April 8, 1915 at Toronto.  He indicates that his father lives at Summerhill, Muneaton, Warkshire, England.  He indicatd that he had 6 months previous miliary experience with the Warwickshire Light Infantry.

Stevens as his next of kin.  He was a farmer and had no previous military experience.  He was 20 years of age and stood 5 feet 6 inches tall and had hazel eyes, brown hair and a medium complexion.  He had a Buffalo Bill tatoo on his left forearm.  He was a Methodist.

According to his first set of attestation papers dated August 3, 1915, Ernest Stirk was born on January 24, 1897 in Keighly, North Yorkshire.  He listed his mother Mrs. Julia Stirk, Robert Street, Mimico (present day Wheatfield Road) as his next of kin.  He did not list an occupation and indicated that he had no previous military experience.  He was 18 years of age and was 5 feet 3 inches tall.  He had grey eyes, brown hair and a dark complexion.  He was a Methodist.

According to his second set of attestation papers dated May 14, 1918 in Toronto, he was a member of the 39th (OS) Battalion for 7 months (Signals) but was discharged due to deafness in both ears.  He listed his father Joseph Stirk, Mimico Beach as his next of kin.  He was declared fit for duty.

According to his attestation papers dated January 19, 1916 at Kingston, Wilfred L. Stock, Mimico Beach, was born on May 1, 1897 at Mimico, Ontario.  He listed his mother Mrs. Mary Stock, Mimico Beach, as his next of kin.  He was a clerk by profession and had no previous military experience.  He as 18 years and 7 months of age and stood 5 feet 8 1/2 inches tall.  He had blue eyes, brown hair and a medium complexion.  He was Roman Catholic. 

According to the 1914 Toronto City directory he listed his occupation as "action mkr" living with his mother (widow of Edward) on the west side of Victor Avenue, Mimico. 

Spr. C. L. V. Stoot - 778355

According to his attestation papers dated January 13, 1916 at Mimico Claude Lewis Victor Stoot was born on May 1, 1894 in Cambridgeshire, England.  He listed his father, William Henry Stoot, Church Street, Mimico (present day Royal York Road) as his next of kin.  He indicated that he was a labourer by trade and that he had had previous military experience with the 12th Regiment, York Rangers.  He was 22 years of age and stood 5 feet 8 inches tall.  He had blue eyes, brown hair with a fair complexion.  He was a member of the Church of England.

He was a sapper with the 2nd Battlion, Canadian Railway Troops.  He died on December 3, 1918 from influenza at the No. 12 Casualty Clearing Station, and is buried in the Busigny Communal Cemetery Extension in France.

Additional information from the Canadian Virtual War Memorial indicates that his mother's name was Emily Stoot and that they lived on Harold Street, Mimico in 1918.

According to his attestation papers dated April 19, 1917 at Toronto, Ernest Arthur William Stoot, Church Street (present day Royal York Road), Mimico was born on March 1, 1889 in Cambridge, England.   He listed his mother Mrs. Emily Stoot, Church Street, Mimico as his next of kin.  He listed his occupation as labourer and indicated that while he had no previous military experience he offered to join the 127th (CS) Battalion but was rejected due to bunions and varicose veins.  He was 28 years and 1 month of age and stood 5 feet 10 1/2 inches tall.  He had dark hazel eyes, dark brown hair and a medium complexion.  He had scars on this right knee and on his left eyebrow.  He was a member of the Church of England.

According to the 1914 Toronto City directory he listed his occupation as a kiln burner living with his father Wm H. Stoot, labourer on the east side of Church Street, Mimico.

According to his attestation papers dated November 11, 1915 at Kingston, Cyril James Telfer was born on December 4, 1892 in Toronto.  He listed his father J.A. Telfer, Mimico as his next of kin.  He listed his occupation as a clerk and indicated that he had no previous military experience.  He was 22 years and 11 months age and was 5 feet 7 inches tall.  He had brown eyes, black hair and a dark complexion.  He was a member of the Church of England.

H. Telford

According to his draft papers dated May 11, 1918 at Toronto, Harold Telford was born on September 24, 1897 in Lancashire, England.  He listed his mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Telford, Macdonald Street, Mimico, as his next of kin.  He listed his occupation as labourer and indicated that he had no previous military experience.  He was 20 years and 7 months of age and stood at 5 feet 7 inches.  He had brown eyes, light hair and a medium complexion.  He had a scar over his left eyebrow. 

Sergeant N. Telford - 406410

According to his attestation papers, dated April 16, 1915 at Hamilton, Nathan Telford was born on December 13, 1894 in Lancashire, England.  He listed his father R. Telford, Vanevery Street, Mimico as his next of kin.  He was a steeplejack by trade and had previous military experience with the 36th Peel.  He was 20 years and 4 months of age and stood 5 feet 6 1/2 inches tall.  He had blue eyes and fair hair and complexion.  He had a scar on the right side of his neck.  He was Presbyterian. 

Nathan Telford, a sergeant in the Canadian Machine Gun Corps was killed on April 15, 1917 and is buried in the Etaples Military Cemetery, France.

According to the Canadian Virtual War Memorial he was awarded the Military Medal.

J. Thomas

According to his attestation papers dated February 18, 1916 at Mimico, James Glyn Thomas was born on November 21, 1883 at Beaumaris, Wales.  He listed his wife, Mrs. Agnes Thomas, as his next of king living on Victoria Street, Mimico (this was later crossed out and 495 Dundas Street, Toronto was written).  He was a mechanic by trade and indicated that he had previous military experience with the 12th Regiment, York Rangers.  He was 32 years and 3 months of age and stood 5 feet 6 inches tall.  He had brown eyes, black hair and a fair complexion.  He was a member of the Church of England.

According the 1914 Toronto City directory he was living on the north side of Victoria Street, Mimico.

Cpl. D. Thorley - 201501

According to his attestation papers dated October 25, 1915 at Toronto, Daniel John Thorley was born on November 14, 1886 at Hornsea, Yorkshire, England.  He listed his wife Edith Emily Thorley, Burlington Road, Mimico as his next of kin.  He listed his occupation as car repairer and indicated that he had no previous military experience.  He was 28 years, 11 1/2 months of age and stood 5 feet 5 1/4 inches tall.  He had brown eyes, black hair and a dark complexion.  He had a 1 inch scar on his right shin.  He was a member of the Church of England.

His brother Robert also enlisted.

There is a separate undated document that changes the address of his next of kin to 41 O'Hara Street, Toronto.

In the 1912 Toronto City directory he is living on the north side of Southampton Avenue in Mimico (present day Cavell Avenue).  In the 1921 Toronto City directory he is living on the north side of Victoria Street, Mimico.

According to a researcher of this family, Daniel and Robert's parents were George Thorley and Hannah Jane Hinde Thorley.  Daniel and Edith Emily Jarvis Thorley immigrated in 1910 sometime after their marriage on March 11, 1910 (Parish of the Transfiguration, Hull, York, England).  Edith died in Montreal, Quebec on March 26, 1949.  Daniel died in Montreal, Quebec on March 3, 1964.

According to his attestation papers dated October 30, 1915 in Toronto, Robert Hinde Thorley was born on June 6, 1891 in Liverpool, England.  He listed his mother Annie Jane Thorley at 1 Cobden Street, Albert Avenue, Hull, England has his next of kin.  At the time he was living at 23 Lark Street, Toronto.  He listed his occupation as "compositor" and indicated that he had no previous military experience.  He was 24 years and 4 months of age and was 5 feet 5 3/4 inches in height.  He had blue eyes, dark brown hair and a medium complexion.  He had a small mole in the centre of his chest and another 2 inches above his navel.

His brother Daniel also enlisted.

According to a researcher of this family Daniel and Robert's parents were George Thorley and Hannah Jane Hinde Thorley.  His brother Daniel and his wife Edith Emily Jarvis Thorley immigrated to Canada in 1910 sometime after their marriage on March 11, 1910 (Parish of the Transfiguration, Hull, York, England).  Perhaps Robert came with them?

According to his attestation papers, dated February 9, 1916 at Mimico, John Oliver Thornborough was born on January 7, 1875 in Worchester, England.  He listed his wife Emma Thornborough, Heman Street, Mimico as his next of kin.  He indicated that he was a Contractor and that he had had previous military experience with the 12th Regiment York Rangers.  He was 40 years and 1 month of age and stood 5 feet 8 inches tall.  He had brown eyes, dark brown hair and a dark complexion. 

According to the 1912 and 1921 Toronto City directories he lived on the south side of Heman Street, Mimico.

According to his attestation papers dated April 12, 1916, George Joseph Timpson was born on December 8, 1890 in Toronto. He listed his wife Mary Timpson, 243 Rhodes Avenue, Toronto as his next of kin. He indicated his occupation as a Teamster. He had no previous military experience. He was 26 years and 4 month of age. He was 5 feet 4 1/2 inches tall with grey eyes, brown hair and medium complexion. He had a scar on his right knee and left chin. He was a member of the Church of England.

According to his attestation papers dated October 7, 1915, William James Daniel Todd was born on August 31, 1883 in Toronto.  He listed his wife Mary Todd, Victoria Street, Mimico as his next of kin.  He indicated his occupation as Driver and Peddling.  He had no previous military experience.  He was 32 years and 1 month of age.  He was 5 feet 9 1/2 inches tall with blue eyes, dark hair and complexion.  He had a scar on his right eye lid, right thumb and above his right knee.  He was a Methodist.

In the 1921 Toronto City directory he is listed as an expressman living on the north side of Evans Avenue.

J. Tomlinson

According to his attestation papers dated February 22, 1916, James Tomlinson was born on June 10, 1887 in Lancashire, England.  He listed his wife Annie Ethel Tomlinson of Mimico as his next of kin.  He was a Builder by trade and had no previous military experience.  He was 28 years and 6 months of age and was 5 feet 4 1/2 inches in height.  He had grey eyes, fair hair and a fresh complexion.  He had a red dot on the lid of his left eye.  He was a Methodist.

According to the 1921 Toronto City directory he was a carpenter living on the west side of Dartmouth Crescent, Mimico.

C. J. Trafford

According this his attestation papers dated January 13, 1916, Cecil John Trafford was born in Oxford, England on January 7, 1898.  He listed his father Walter J. Trafford, Mimico as his next of kin.  He indicated that he worked on the railway and that he had had previous military experience with the 12th Regiment of the York Rangers.  He was 18 years of age and stood 5 feet tall.  He had blue eyes and fair hair and complexion.  He was a member of the Church of England.

His father Walter and brother Ralph also enlisted.

R. Trafford

According to his first set of attestation papers dated November 6, 1916, Ralph Trafford was born in Oxford, England on November 2, 1898.  He listed his mother Eliza Trafford, Portland Street, Mimico as his next of kin.  He was a machinist.  He indicated that he had no previous military experience.  He was 18 years old and 5 feet 1 inches tall.  He had grey blue eyes, brown hair and a medium complexion.  He had a mole under his right arm; a scar on the corner of his left eye; and a scar on the back of his left index finger.  It appears that he was discharged after four and a half months due to being underweight.

He then enlisted again.  According to his second set of attestation papers dated September 14, 1917, Ralph Trafford was born in New Martin, Oxfordshire, England on November 2, 1898.  He listed his mother Elizabeth Trafford, Portland Street, Mimico as his next of kin.  He was a labourer and indicated that he had had four and a half months of previous military experience with the 208th Battalion.  He had been previously discharged from the military for being underweight.  He was 18 years and 10 months of age and was 5 feet 2 1/2 inches tall.  He had grey eyes, brown hair and a fair complexion.  He had a scar on the first finger of his left hand.  A scar on the side of his right eye, and mole on the right side of his back.  He was a member of the Church of England.

His father Walter and his brother Ralph also enlisted.

In the 1921 Toronto City directory he is listed as a steamfitter living on the west side of Milton Street, Mimico.

According to his attestation papers dated March 3, 1916, Walter John Trafford was born in Oxford, England on August 26, 1872.  He listed his wife Mrs. Eliza Trafford, Portland Street, Mimico as his next of kin.  He was an Engineer by profession and indicated that he had had previous military experience with the 12th York Rangers Regiment.  He was 40 years and 5 months of age and stood 5 feet 10 inches tall.  He had blue eyes, brown hair and a dark complexion.  He was a member of the Church of England.

His sons Cecil and Ralph also enlisted.

In the 1921 Toronto City directory he was living on the north side of Portland Street.

C. Turley

According to his attestation papers dated October 20, 1915, Chester George Turley, was born in Brentwood, Ontario on September 3, 1895.  He first listed his father George Turley of 155 Emerson Avenue, Toronto as his next of kin but it was later crossed out and Mary Turley, 605 Brantford Street (?) was written in.  He indicated that he was a Shipper and that he had no previous military experience.  He was 20 years 1 month in age and stood at 5 feet 10 inches tall.  He had blue eyes, brown hair and a medium complexion.  He had a 1/2 inch scar on his right foot, on top near his little toe.

According to the 1921 Toronto City directory he was boarding at the home of Peter McBridge on the north side of Mimico Avenue.

According to his attestation papers dated April 17, 1916, Herbert Yolland Turner was born in London, England on July 9, 1885.  He listed his wife Mahalah Chaloner Turner, Mimico Beach as his next of kin.  He listed his occupation as a clerk and indicated that he had had previous military experience with the 12th York Rangers.  He was 30 years and 9 months of age and was 5 feet 9 1/2 inches tall.  He had brown eyes and dark hair and complexion.  He had scars on his right foot and left "inguinal" region.  He was a Baptist.

In the 1921 Toronto City directory he was living on the east side of Burlington Street.

According to his attestation papers, dated January 8, 1916, Lewis LeRoy Tyson was born on April 9th, 1897 in Mimico.  He listed a friend, Mrs. Lucy Devons of 164 Fairview Avenue, West Toronto, as his next of kin.  He was a Brass Worker and had had previous military experience with the 12th Regiment of the York Rangers.  He was 5 feet 8 1/2 inches tall with blue eyes, light hair and a fair complexion.

According to his first set of attestation papers, dated April 16, 1915, Henry Guild Valentine was born on May 19, 1883 in Inverkeillor, Scotland.  He listed his mother Betsy Valentine of 15 Lilybank Road, Dundee, Scotland as his next of kin.  He indicated that he was a Railroad Engineer and that he had had no previous military experience.  He was 31 years and 11 months of age and 5 feet 11 inches in height.  He had blue eyes with fair hair and complexion.  He was a Presbyterian

According to his second set of attestation papers, dated January 25, 1916, Henry Guild Valentine indicated that he had had 4 months of previous military experience with the 36th Peel.  He was 32 years and 8 months old and was 5 feet 9 1/2 inches tall.  He had a scar on the back of his left thigh and a red scar on his left forearm near his elbow.  He was a Presbyterian.

He was member of the 15th Battalion, Canadian Infantry (Central Ontario Regiment) when he was killed on April 9, 1917.  The War Grave Commission register indicates that he died of wounds while in the care of the No. 1 Canadian Field Ambulance and is buried in the Quatre-Vents Military Cemetery in Estree-Cauchy, France.

G. Vaughan

According to his attestation papers, dated January 4, 1916, George Vaughan was born in Wales on April 1, 1876.  He listed his wife Agnes Vaughan as his next of kin.  He listed his occupation as coat presser and indicated that he had no previous military experience.  He was 40 years, 9 months of age and 5 feet 3 1/2 inches tall.  He had brown eyes, dark brown hair as well as a dark complexion.  He was missing the thumb on his left hand and had a scar on his forehead.   He was a Congreationist.

According to the 1914 Toronto City directory he was a presser and lived on the north side of Warden.

L. Vint

According to his attestation papers, dated August 17, 1915, Lloyd Victor Vint was born on April 13, 1895 in Penetanguishene, Ontario.  He listed his mother Constance Vint as his next of kin.  He listed his occupation as a clerk and indicated that he had had previous military experience with the 48th Highlanders.  He was 20 years and 4 months of age and 5 feet 9 1/4 inches tall.  He had grey eyes, brown hair and a dark complexion.  He was a member of the Church of England.

According to the 1914 Toronto City directory he was a clerk living with his parents on the east side of Victor Avenue. 

His brother Roy also enlisted.

R. Vint

According to his attestation papers, dated December 1, 1916, Roy Reginald Vint was born in Penetang, Ontario on September 12, 1894.  He listed his mother, Christina Vint as his next of kin.  He was an accountant and had no previous military experience.  He was 23 years and 4 months of age.  He was 5 feet 11 inches tall with brown eyes and hair.  He was Presbyterian.

According to the 1914 Toronto City directory he was a bookkeeper at the Ontario Sewer Pipe Co. Ltd. in Mimico and lived with his father's home on the east side of Victor Avenue.

His brother also enlisted.

S. Waller

According to his attestation papers, dated March 4, 1916, Sydney Gilbert Waller was born in Sawantwarri, (Sawantwadi?) India on March 25, 1875.  He listed his wife Hattie Irene Waller as his next of kin.  He listed his occupation as in advertising.  He did not have any previous military experience.  He was 40 years and 11 months old and was 6 feet tall.  He had grey eyes and grayish brown hair with a fresh complexion.  He was slightly deaf, especially in the right ear.

K. K. Warner

According to his attestation papers, dated January 8, 1916, Kenneth Kipling Warner was born in York County on April 19, 1897.  He listed his mother Victoria Warner as his next of kin.  He listed his occupation as railroad employee and indicated that he had had previous military experience with the 12th Regiment, York Rangers.  He was 18 years, 9 months old and was 5 foot 7 inches tall.  He had two scars from an operation on the right side of his neck due to "cerneal ademites".  He was  Methodist.

According to the 1912 Toronto City directory he Victoria Warner lived on the south side of Southampton (present day Cavel Avenue).

J. Watt

According to his attestation papers, dated November 8, 1915, James Watt was born in Cruden, Aberdeenshire, Scotland on January 18, 1879.  He listed his wife May Watt, Mimico as his next of kin.  He indicated that he was a labourer and that he had no previous military experience.  He was 38 years, 10 months old and was 5 feet, 4 1/2 inches tall with blue eyes and brown hair with a fresh complexion.  He had a 4 inch scar on the right side of his back.  He was a Presbyterian.

According to the 1912 Toronto City directory he was a bricklayer living on the north side of Portland Street, Mimico.

W. Weaver

According to his attestation papers, dated September 19, 1916, Walter Weaver was born in Glasgow Scotland on November 26, 1899.  He listed his mother Margaret Weaver, Macdonald Avenue, as his next of kin.  He was a machinist apprentice and had no previous military experience.  He was 16 years, 9 months old and 5 foot 11/4 inches tall.  He had gray eyes with fair hair and complexion.  He was a member of the Church of England.

There is a second set of attestation papers dated September 3, 1918.  In these he states that he was born in Patrick, Scotland and was living at 355 Perth Street, Toronto.  His age is listed as 19 years 2 months.

Lt. F. A. Werden

According to his attestation papers, dated December 9, 1915, Frederick Asa Werden was a Lieutenant in the Canadian Expeditionary Force.  He was born in Toronto on October 23, 1882.  He listed his mother, Mrs. Austin Werden as his next of kin.  He was a merchant by profession and was a active member of the GGBG (Governor Generals Body Guard).  He had 5 years previous military experience with the Canadian Signaling Corps.

Frederick Asa Werden was a member of the Central Ontario Regiment, 75th Battalion when he was killed on January 10, 1918.  He died of wounds at the No. 30 Casualty Clearing Station, and is buried in the Bucquoy Road Cemetery near Ficheux, France.

Frederick's father was Austin Werden, postmaster and grocer located on the east side of Church Street in Mimico (present day Royal York Road) at Pidgeon Avenue (present day Stanley Avenue). 

W. J. West

According to his attestation papers dated January 20, 1916, Walter John West was born in Kingsdown, Wiltshire, England on February 16, 1890.   He listed his wife Mrs. Rose West, Deane Street, Mimico as his next of kin.  He indicated that he was a labourer with no previous military experience.  He was 25 years and 11 months of age.  He stood 5 feet 9 inches tall.  He had brown eyes and fair hair and complexion.  He was a member of Church of England.

According to the 1912 Toronto City directory he was working as a brass moulder (most likely at Brown's Copper and Brass in New Toronto) as was bording at the home of E.T. Swayne on the south side of Elizabeth Street.

Pte. L. Wood - 862407

According to his attestation papers dated February 17, 1916, Leonard Robert Wood was born in London, England on September 10, 1896.  He listed his mother Matilda Wood as his next of kin.  He listed his trade as clerk.  He was living on Macdonald Street.  He was 19 years, 5 months of age and 5 feet 9 3/4 inches tall.  He had blue eyes and fair hair and complexion.  He had scars on both knees and a birthmark on his left breast.  He was a member of the Church of England.

He was a member of the British Columbia Regiment, 7th Battalion when he was killed in action on July 23, 1917.  He is buried in the Maroc British Cemetery, Grenay, France

Pte. J. C. Woolley - 285306

According to his attestation papers signed on May 15, 1916 Joseph Woolley was born in South Staffordshire, England on June 15, 1883.  He listed his wife Minnie Woolley as his next of kin.  He was a mechanic by trade and indicated that he had had previous military experience with the 12th York Rangers.  He was 32 years and 11 months old and was 5 feet 2 inches tall.  He had brown eyes and dark hair and complexion.  He was a member of the Church of England. 


According to the 1912 Toronto city directory he was working as a carpenter and living on the east side of Lake Crescent.

Pte. J. S. Wooller - 916078

According to his attestation papers signed on February 18, 1916, James Strange Wooller was born in Stratford, England on February 11, 1882.  He listed his trade as a Motorman.  He was married and listed his wife Grace Annie Wooller as next of kin.  He did have past military experience indicating that he had had twelve years experience as a private with the 5th Lancers.  He was 34 years old, 5 feet 7 3/4 inches tall with brown eyes and fair hair and complexion.  He was a member of the Church of England.  On his right forearm he had a tatoo of a Lancer.
